MESSAGE

I am committed to promoting health policy research utilizing big data, such as the National Database of Health Insurance Claims (NDB), to contribute to Evidence-Based Policymaking (EBPM). Additionally, I am dedicated to fostering the next generation of public health professionals through the management of the Board Certified Social Medicine Specialist training program.

NARRATIVE CV

Dr. Sugiyama graduated from the University of Tokyo School of Medicine in 2006. After completing clinical training at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM), he obtained a Master of Science in Health Services from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health in 2012 and a PhD from the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine in 2014. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Medical DX Department at the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS), while concurrently serving as a Senior Researcher at iGHP and a Specially Appointed Professor at the University of Tsukuba. He specializes in health policy research utilizing large-scale data such as the NDB. He holds board certifications in General Internal Medicine, Diabetes, and Social Medicine.
