MESSAGE
My research focuses on mental health in low- and middle-income countries, with particular attention to maternal and child health as well as occupational health. I aim to generate evidence that informs the development of mental health and social welfare policies to promote psychological well-being.NARRATIVE CV
Shota Matsunaga is a Specially Appointed Researcher at the Institute for Global Health Policy Research under the Bureau of Global Health Cooperation at the Japan Institute for Health Security in Japan.He received his Master of Medical Science (MMSc) from Kitasato University in 2024. Since completing his MMSc, he has been serving as an Assistant Professor at Tokyo Women’s Medical University. In 2025, he enrolled in the Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Medicine, Nagoya University, and assumed his current position. His research focuses on postpartum depression and the mental health of children and workers in low- and middle-income countries. In Japan, he is engaged in public health research using large-scale datasets of workers and forensic psychiatric patients.
